Caring for Mob, DSS National Carer Campaign, 2022.
Caring for others is an important and crucial part of our communities and our family structures. All throughout my life, I have watched as my parents as they cared for their parent’s - day and night for many years. This is a role that I have had to take on with my family. It is not an easy responsibility to look after another person and can often go unnoticed. When dealing with chronic illnesses, mental health challenges, disabilities medical issues and age-related conditions, it is crucial for there to be a strong support system and tools and resources available for carers. The connections between the meeting circles is representative of these strong support systems. The digging sticks represent the tools to support carers to look after their loved ones. Being a carer is a role that is often ongoing for extended periods throughout a one’s life, with ebbs and flows, ups and downs as shown through the depiction of the waterways. The florals throughout this design are there to symbolise care and nurture, something that we do well for our land, but also our people.
