Youth Consultation Forum - Rural and Remote Live Artist, Youth Consultation Forum - Rural and Remote Live Artist, 2024.
The central focus of this artwork represents the youth forum, it shows off a gathering amongst all the young people today. There is a meeting circle which has a several figures surrounding them, this is Kiara who presented to the group at the beginning of the day. I wanted to highlight the wrap around support that she highlighted in her story. Within this section of the artwork, there is a shield for protection and digging sticks which are essential tools. The river surrounding this section, displays the concept of free-flowing knowledge and information. Key themes throughout this artwork are related to gender†identity - within this piece, you can see men, women and gender diverse people. It also highlights key ideas related to each of these groups, the kangaroo - which has masculine energy, and the emu or dhinawaan which has feminine energy. As a Queer Aboriginal artist, it was important to me to ensure that I showed off my community as well as I possible could, it makes me happy to see young people living and expressing themselves so freely. Many other concepts are expressed throughout this artwork, two way communication, free expression, connectedness, nature, warmth, growth and youth taking their health in their hands.
